Alvin Sherman

Dr. Alvin “Lin” Sherman is Director of Academic Unit Reviews at Brigham Young University. He is also a professor of Spanish. Dr. Sherman served six-and-a-half years as chair of the Department of Spanish & Portuguese. Other duties include Study Abroad assignments to Spain (four programs), six years as the department’s Rank & Status chair, and eight years on the University Academic Review Committee prior to taking up the directorship. Prior to coming to Brigham Young University, Dr. Sherman taught at Idaho State University. At BYU he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Medieval, Enlightenment, Romantic and 21st-century Spanish Peninsular literatures and culture as well as seminars on Literary Theory. His research includes publications highlight works by Diego Torres Villarroel, Mariano José de Larra, José de Esponceda, Miguel de Unamuno, Almudena Grandes, Antonio Muñoz Molina and Javier Cercas. Dr. Sherman received B.A. degrees in Public Relations and Spanish (1985) and a M.A. in Spanish (1987) from Brigham Young University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia (1990).
