Justin Paulsen

Dr. Justin Paulsen began working as an Associate Director in the Office of Assessment and Planning in 2023. Dr. Paulsen supports campus decision-making by analyzing and modeling survey data for trends and patterns. He also develops and improves campus surveys to measure student experiences, attitudes, and outcomes.

Dr. Paulsen has worked with a variety of organizations, including the Center for Postsecondary Research, ACT, Human Resources Research Organization, and the Missionary Training Center. He has also worked as an adjunct faculty instructing graduate students on research methods and statistics. Across these organizations, Justin has employed methodological rigor to answer clients’ questions. He is a strong communicator and conveys technical content in accessible and actionable ways.

Justin is a proud BYU alum, graduating with degrees in Political Science and Russian in 2010. He additionally received an MPA/MA in Russian Studies from the University of Washington in 2013 and a Ph.D. in Inquiry Methodology from Indiana University in 2019. Dr. Paulsen has expertise in qualitative, quantitative, and psychometric methodologies. He has published methodological and applied pieces in various academic journals and belongs to the Association for Institutional Research.
