Michael Barber

Professor

Michael Barber is a Professor of Political Science at Brigham Young University, holding a PhD in politics from Princeton University. His work primarily centers on the causes and consequences of ideological polarization within American politics, analyzing both elected officials and the public.
Professor Barber directs the Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy at BYU and serves as an Associate Principal Investigator for the Cooperative Congressional Survey, the largest recurring academic survey of the American public. His research has appeared in numerous peer-reviewed journals. Many years ago he was an undergraduate student at BYU, and while a student he benefitted from excellent mentoring from faculty in the Political Science Department, many of whom are now his colleagues and coauthors.
