Shelly J. Reed has both a PhD and a DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice) with a focus on nursing education. Both her dissertation and her DNP thesis explored simulation debriefing, leading to the development of two instruments. These include the Debriefing Experience Scale, which measures the participant experience during debriefing, and the Debriefing Engagement and Learning Behaviors instrument, which is used to measure learning and engagement behaviors during debriefing. She is a Certified Nurse Educator and has presented locally, nationally, and internationally on simulation debriefing and other topics, and has also been a chapter author on debriefing in two simulation texts. She has been involved in simulation as a facilitator, course coordinator, and researcher since 2006. Shelly is a lifelong learner, completing her latest degree, a nurse midwifery post-graduate certificate, in December 2020. In addition to 19 years as a nurse educator, Shelly has worked for over 40 years as a nurse, nurse practitioner, and now certified nurse midwife, currently working part time as a midwife in a busy obstetric emergency room.
