Dr. Stacie Hunsaker is a Teaching Professor in the College of Nursing, where she teaches full-time in the baccalaureate nursing program and serves as a practicing Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE).
With 37 years of nursing experience—30 in emergency departments—Dr. Hunsaker has held diverse clinical and academic roles, including staff nurse, charge nurse, nurse manager, simulation facilitator, and educator. She is board certified in emergency nursing, pediatric emergency nursing, nursing education, and healthcare simulation. Her leadership includes directing a large-scale quality improvement initiative to increase influenza vaccination rates and advancing care for survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence. Additionally, she spearheaded the successful international accreditation of the nursing simulation center in the College of Nursing at BYU.
Dr. Hunsaker’s graduate research on burnout and compassion fatigue has been presented nationally and published in peer-reviewed journals, reflecting her dedication to the well-being of both patients and healthcare professionals.
Her educational journey underscores a deep commitment to lifelong learning. She began with an Associate Degree in Nursing, earned her BSN while working full time, completed a Master’s in Nursing Education two decades later, and ultimately earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice with a focus on Organizational Leadership.
In 2025, Dr. Hunsaker was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN), one of the highest honors in the profession, recognizing her significant contributions to nursing leadership, education, and clinical practice.
